Secretary's Message

“On behalf of the West Bengal Scheduled Tribe Welfare Association (WBSTWA),
I extend my greetings and heartfelt appreciation to all our members, supporters, well-wishers, and the people of West Bengal.
Since its registration as a non-political organisation in 2020, our Association has remained steadfast in its commitment to protecting the constitutional rights of the genuine Scheduled Tribe communities of West Bengal. One of our foremost objectives has been to address the serious issue of individuals who do not belong to any constitutionally recognised Scheduled Tribe allegedly obtaining Scheduled Tribe certificates and thereby availing themselves of reservation benefits meant exclusively for the genuinely disadvantaged tribal communities.Such practices, if established, undermine the constitutional safeguards intended for Scheduled Tribe people and deprive deserving tribal students and candidates of their rightful opportunities in education, public employment, and other welfare measures. Recognising the gravity of this issue, our Association has consistently submitted representations, organised deputations, pursued complaints before the Backward Classes Welfare Department, District Magistrates, Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs), Block Development Officers (BDOs), and other competent authorities, and has advocated for the expeditious verification and cancellation of certificates found to have been obtained unlawfully, in accordance with the law.
Although numerous organisations work for the welfare of tribal communities, very few have undertaken a sustained and organised campaign on this issue. Through the unwavering dedication, courage, and tireless efforts of our members and fellow activists, the West Bengal Scheduled Tribe Welfare Association has helped bring this matter to the forefront of public discourse and policy discussions in the State.
From a modest beginning in 2020 with only a handful of committed members, our Association has grown into a strong state-wide organisation with district branches across 22 districts of West Bengal. This remarkable journey has been made possible solely through the collective commitment, unity, and selfless service of our members and supporters.
I express my sincere gratitude to every colleague, volunteer, and well-wisher who has stood with us in this important mission. Together, we shall continue to uphold the Constitution of India, safeguard the rights of genuine Scheduled Tribe communities, and work tirelessly to ensure that the benefits of reservation and welfare reach those for whom they were constitutionally intended. “
